How I Produce Posts and Reels

By M.S. Aldrich

ASPA member, M.S. Aldrich, provides an insight into what inspires her creative writing and how she brings her poetry and lyrics to life on different social media platforms.

I am a creative writer rather than a formal writer. I naturally write poems, song lyrics and quotes – it's all about the feelings.

Quotes inspire me, in fact, most of my most profound “aha “moments have been inspired by quotes – few words, BIG meanings, and that goes for poems and song lyrics as well.

I started writing poems about 20 (ish) years ago, by sheer accident; I’d read an article about how writing letters to loved ones helps with the grieving process. So, I wrote one to my late Mum, when I read it back, I realised it was a poem – and I’ve been writing ever since! It’s like therapy for me. Now I write song lyrics also.

I’m not a formal writer, that doesn’t come naturally to me, I make spelling mistakes, my grammar isn’t great and as for punctuation – meh! Goes over my head. I write from my heart, I express my thoughts, feelings and emotions through writing. I write real and raw, hopefully relatable, to help, inspire and encourage those who are on a healing journey.

As an Inner Child Healing Practitioner, my main subjects are healing, health and wellbeing. I share my knowledge and wisdom to my readers, I also hope they enjoy them too, if I can make someone smile then I know I have done a good job and even if I make them cry a little, then that’s good also, because “feeling is healing”. So, I’m aiming for an audience that are on a healing journey, I know myself from my own experiences that it can be a lonely road, and if my posts, poems, songs and quotes are relatable, then they may feel less alone.

I post quotes, exerts and prompts on my social medias that I choose from my poems, whatever line or phrase JUMPS OUT to me, then I go with it. This hopefully helps my readers to connect with my poetry books, if the quote or phrase speaks to them, then I’ve no doubt that they will be inspired and enjoy them. As a nature lover, I enjoy taking photos of flowers and wildlife which I use for my posts and reels. Oh, the beauty of nature. Then I add music or songs that are relevant, to give an extra enjoyable experience

I don’t have a set schedule; however, I do try to stay consistent with posting on my socials, with a bit of a plan for each week. For example: on Mondays I post a quote about Inner Child Healing. Tuesdays I’ll share a song. Wednesdays I post a ‘healing prompt’ asking a question to spark engagement. Thursdays I’ll share a story of one of my books. Fridays share an exert from a poem and link my book and weekends I will post a happy/fun quote or a quote about rest and relaxation.

Facebook is my main platform; I find my readers are more willing to like and comment on my posts and reels which is lovely. I’m hoping in the near future to start a group, to grow a healing community. TikTok is the second, I do get some likes there but mainly on the songs I post rather than the posts. Instagram just doesn’t seem to work for me, I feel quite disappointed with that because when I set up, I thought it would be the one to work out the best, but there is still time…and hope.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

With much love and healing
