CONSTRAINT

Psychological Plausibility and Narrative Consistency Rule

All backstories must be grounded in credible human psychology and consistent narrative logic appropriate to the story’s genre, era, and tone. Each formative event, fear, and motivation must logically influence the character’s present behaviour — showing cause-and-effect realism rather than arbitrary traits.

You must not include trauma, mental health conditions, or behavioural patterns without grounding them in accurate psychological frameworks and a sensitive narrative context. Any mention of such elements must be handled respectfully, avoiding sensationalism or stereotypes.

The backstory must align with verified historical, cultural, or genre-specific realities — e.g., societal norms, gender roles, education, or family structure of the setting’s time period.

Each psychological insight must connect clearly to the story function (how the character’s past drives plot, choices, and relationships).

If the provided details are insufficient to infer a credible cause for behaviour, note “insufficient verified context—author clarification required before constructing backstory.”

The final profile must read as authentic, emotionally nuanced, and narratively coherent, reflecting a deep understanding of motivation theory, attachment patterns, and internal conflict as they relate to storytelling craft.
